Amavasya Tithi-Moon and Sun joined in Virgo on 4th October, 2013

Amāvasyā/ Amavasya indicates the New Moon when the luminaries are joined in one sign/ Rāśi/ Rashi. This has many implications. Such a time has material implications and in India also marks the end of the Śrāddha Pakṣa/ Shraddha Paksha-the fortnight where the Pitṛs/ancestors are remembered and propitiated and leads to the Navarātri/ Navaratri-Nine Nights of the Devī/ Devi/ Goddess.

The New Moon brings new things as another cycle is commencing. This is a time of beginnings and initiations. It depends on Karma as to what is begun and what is ended. Even in nativities we find that births on the New Moon are fraught with great difficulties and it depends as to why these difficulties are there and what they lead to from case to case. Some may assimilate the problems and emerge as the favourites of the Goddess while others may find some dark path, with a darkened mind.

The Amāvasyā/ Amavasya is governed by Rāhu/ Rahu, the North Node of the Moon. It is inimical to the Moon/ Cañdra/ Chandra and hence the difficulties. Rāhu/ Rahu will play a very dominant role in the life of the native. The alleviation of the problems sometimes depends on the strength of Gurū/ Guru/ Jupiter as the two planets are antithetical to each other. And yet, we would do well not to judge. Without Rāhu/ Rahu a huge and significant part of creation is lost. We cannot be judgmental of Grahas. Rāhu/ Rahu is Tamas Guṇa/ Guna Graha while Gurū is Sattwa Guṇa/ Guna.

If Jupiter is very strong in the nativity then subject to a host of other facets in the horoscope, the difficulties can be tided over and the person may emerge as being the favourite of the Goddess. Otherwise, onerous times have to be undergone and suffering entails. The Tithi, just as Kṛṣṇa Caturdaśī/ Krishna Chaturdashi is flawed and thus remedial measures are required as per the Śāstra/ Shastra/ scriptures.

The transit chart/ Gochara Chakra is extracted below for the reference of the readers-

We can see there are no full planetary aspects on the conjoined luminaries. The impact of Virgo/Kanyā Rāśi/ Kanya Rashi is therefore quite pronounced. The sign relates to work and the yielding of gains from work. It requires putting the head down and working. This experience is not easy but forms the backbone of the modern working world. It harbours ambitions which are fanned by the materialistic Moon and Sūrya/ Surya, the governor of all resources in the world as the Āditya/ Aditya.

It is for some of the foregoing reasons that the Financial New Year starts on a New Moon in Hindu India and also why Lakṣmī/Lakshmi is worshipped on the New Moon on Dīpāwalī/ Deepawali. It is a state of lack leading to a state of abundance.

There is the Rāśi Dṛṣṭi of Gurū/ Guru to the Yoga which ensures that blessings are  coming in a big way especially for some natives born in this Yoga if the horoscope should so indicate. Further sign aspects indicate fated and deterministic influences and the positives will come from writing, communications, banking transactions, friendships and acquaintances etc.

While Venus/ Śukra/ Shukra is also transiting out to Scorpio/ Vṛṣcika/ Vrishchika that has to be the subject of another paper.

A BRIEF LOOK AT THE TWELVE LAGNAS/ ASCENDANTS IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY

People are often curious at the beginning of their astrological quest, to know something of the various facets pertaining to their ‘chart’; in other words, they wish to evaluate the basic propensities pertaining to their Lagnas and their Rashi/ Lagna Kundalis (Kundalis). Also, the Chandra Lagna itself and Gochar furnish other popular areas of curiosity. Lagna is the sign rising on the Eastern horizon at the time of birth and is occupied by a Rāśi (Rashi)/ Vedic sign. The average duration of a sign rising in the Lagna/ Ascendant is two hours and for this reason the twelve Rāśis cover the twenty-four hours duration of the solar day. ( Basic Jyotiṣa principles can be accessed by clicking this link ) Lagna imbues a person with individuality and therefore denotes the self and the personality of the person. It is the first house or Bhāva of the chart and is the commencement point of any horoscopic study. We cannot forget that in all the divisional charts as well there is a Lagna/ asc

Yanavanta/ Annapurna/ Vahana Yoga of Venus and Moon in Scorpio-8th October, 2013

The Yānavaṅta/ Yanavanta/ Annapūrṇā/ Annapurna/ Vāhana/ Vahana Yoga is formed when Venus and Moon/ Śukra and Cañdra/ Shukra and Chandra associate to form a Yoga in the Vedic horoscope; by Vedic horoscope is meant the Rāśi Cakra/ Rashi Chakra and the Varga Chakra as well, the latter being the divisional charts governing specific areas of life such as marriage (Navāmśa/ Navamsha), career (Daśāmśa/ Dashamsha), children (Saptāmśa/ Saptamsha), parents and elders (Dwādaśāmśa/ Dwadashamsha), comforts and luxuries (Ṣodaśāmśa/ Shodashamsha), spirituality and worship (Vimśāmśa/ Vimshamsha), education (Siddhāmśa/ Siddhamsha) etc. Let us consider the immediate meanings of the various terms used to indicate the Yoga formed due to the association of Venus and the Moon. The term Yānavaṅta/ Yanavanta indicates the charioteer or one guiding the vehicle of humanity or a group or individuals. It indicates leadership and the capacity to show the way to the multitudes and to guide and mould their live

A METHODOLOGY FOR VEDIC CHART INTERPRETATION

The following is an attempt to lay down a general method to conduct professional chart analysis. It appears to have worked well for the author in his practice. Notably though, it need not be the best way to interpret charts and the astrologer must find her own way when it comes to developing a structure with which to unravel any given chart. Some of the more general features of interpretation are being omitted for fear of the paper becoming unwieldy but certain crucial aspects of Jyotish interpretation are being explained since these are not very widely used. The author is indebted to the works of Pt. Sanjay Rath, author, scholar and Jyotish Guru of Sri Jagannath Center. It is through assimilating the writings of Pt. Rath that the author has been able to progress from the fundamentals of Jyotish to a somewhat deeper understanding. ARUDHA PADAS: The houses as reckoned from the Lagna/ Ascendant reveal the truth about the native. This is metaphysical reality as distinguished from precipit
