Sun in Scorpio on 16th November, 2013-In Parivartana/ Exchange with Mars and Out of Debilitation

The Vedic Sun moves out of its debilitation in Libra/ Tulā Rāśi/ Tula Rashi and into Scorpio/ Vṛṣcika Rāśi/ Vrishchika Rashi which is a friendly, fire sign/ Agni Tattwa Rashi ruled by Mars.

This also brings about a Parivartana Yoga between the Sun and Mars which coalesces two fiery planets in a common agenda of paving the future with the insights gleaned from deep delving into matters. Fire cuts through the dross and so newer opportunities will be coming forth for some who can then forge new realities with them. Agni Tattwa is replete with cutting intelligence and purity and is known for creation and purification.

On the other hand while debilitated/ Nīca/ Neecha, the Sun was also assailed by the Yuti/ conjunction of Śani and Rāhu/ Shani/ Saturn and Rahu, two dire malefics opposed to the Sun.

Debilitated planets are compelled into humility and being grounded and when this happens to the sun it is a somewhat serious matter.  According to me, it is as simple as coming to understand that the King indicated by the Sun is being made to act like someone in the populace and that too a humble specimen of the populace. He must, like everyone else scratch out his living in the reality of the market-place (Libra/ Tulā Rāśi/ Tula Rashi).

The King by definition is not meant to be less than the King, ever. Something is seriously wrong with the kingdom if the King is not being allowed to be the King. Of course there are so many other ramifications which have been discussed in the paper on the transit debility of the Sun on this website. One facet of the conjunction of the Sun with exalted Saturn is the dominance of the common sentiment and overpowering influences from the deviant, the latter coming from Rāhu/ Rahu who has the duty of eclipsing the luminaries due to an existential animosity.

Since the Sun is the Āditya/ Aditya, the governor of resources, its debilitation in the sign of Libra has been difficult for resources as well and the overall shine in life. People who are strongly influenced by the Sun could have had an acute sense of this although we must be certain that debilitation does not always have adverse financial implications and in some cases the finances can be just as good as when the planets are exalted.

In any case all this is now in the past since on 16th November, 2013 the Sun moves into Scorpio as stated above and while the day of ingress or the Saṅkraṅtī/ Sankranti has its own pressures, generally speaking the Sun in a friendly sign is far better placed than in debility. We can see that the initiation in Libra continues to be messy and even sordid, with the saving grace that Budha/ Mercury is now direct and the communications snafus which threw a spanner in the works have now abated. Banking instruments were faltering left, right and centre, being returned and demitted for further cross-checking, appending of further details and so on-but this too is now a matter of the past.

What is not a matter of the past though, and continues much into the present is the Graha Dṛṣṭi/ Drishti/ planetary aspect of Rāhu/ Rahu to the Sun. This is a malefic aspect and tries to throw the noose around the neck of the King. But is that all we can say? Not in the least because all that is intellectually original and operates with ten times the thrust is also Rāhu/ Rahu and so from business to power-shifts-this impetus will also come from the shadow planet. 

The one universal behavioural course of action or the remedy as it were is to ensure the soul-level connection with the events and thoughts that transpire and with the inner core of our own being. This is so because the Sun is after all the significator of the soul and in the sign of Scorpio it must dive deep and connect with the mysteries of existence. More immediate and practical inferences will certainly come from the sign positions in a given nativity or Vedic horoscope and the roles that the planets play in the life of that person. 

For example, the transit Moon may be lauded for a variety of reasons but if it happens to be in the 8th House from a sensitive junction like the Udaya Lagna/ Ascendant or the Cañdra/ Chandra Lagna/  Jañma Rāśi/ Janma Rashi, the Maraṇa Kāraka Sthāna/ Marana Karaka Sthana (MKS) effects start to come through and the more terrible recesses of the human mind start to show up. 

Let me also say that for those who are sick and tired of the muck and filth of Adharma, have a great opportunity to move on, especially in context of the journey from misguided intimacy to higher ground. They will be aided in this endeavour.

Maṅgala/ Mangala/ Mars aspects the Sun as its sign dispositor with Graha Dṛṣṭi/ Drishti adding to the exchange which has sealed a bond between the King and his Commander-in-Chief. This will be a highly Karmic transit for the Sun where it is able to tap into the royalty and power of Leo due to the exchange with Mars and also enjoy any number of resources. It both provides and receives from Scorpio.

Leo and Scorpio become extremely energised due to this combination and is these Rāśis/ Rashis are conspicuous in the Lagna chart then such natives can expect interesting events to transpire. The Moon is also in the middle of all sorts of action at this time being in another sign of Mars, Aries and so the mental filters are also passing through initiative and aggression to people with a tinge of the infra-red from Ketu.

Since the Sun is the significator for resources and for the work and profession as well, amongst other planets, this shift entails a major shift in these areas of work, business, service, enterprise and profession as well. Scope of Gajakesari Yoga (Moon and Jupiter) in Gemini With Mercury Retrograde on 23rd October, 2013

At about 10:00 PM on 23rd October, 2013 the transit Moon enters Gemini and Jupiter placed therein. Rahu aspects this combination from Libra. Mercury/ Budha has also turned retrograde, being the lord of Gemini. 

Gajakesari Yoga has been described in a previous article but the conjunction of the two great natural benefics will be tremendous for the intelligence and name and fame of those born with Mithuna Lagna rising in the radix. This will be heightened if such natives are blessed with the placement of either or both of Jupiter and the Moon either in the Lagna Keṅdra/ Kendra or any of the other quadrant houses from the Lagna.

Kendras represent the pillars of life and such a positive Yoga can have a great supportive bearing on some of the most crucial areas of life. 

The Daśā/ Dasha of either the Moon or Jupiter in the nativity can also enable people to feel the auspiciousness which comes from popularity, appreciation, acclaim, competence, learning, strength and participation.






We focus a lot on Śrāpa/ Shrapa/ Curses and rightly so because suffering is a dominant problem in life. However, suffering has a converse and this is blessings. Just as suffering comes about due to the influence of two or more malefic planets, happiness comes about due to the influence of two or more beneficial planets. Jupiter is the greatest benefic there is. Other planets can sometimes offer more on the material, hedonistic plane but all things considered the blessings of Jupiter are incomparable.

When this happens, the benefic planets acts in ways which will make us sit up and take notice. As stated, Mercury is also the lord of Gemini where the Gajakeśarī/ Gajakesari Yoga occurs. Retrogression amongst other things implies things coming through from the past or efforts which have been made in the past. Sometimes one is required to travel back in time for some reason.

Acclaim from the Gajakesari Yoga could come from relationships and interactions set up in the past. It could involve a lot of communication and expression. In some cases where the sun is shining and success is coming through there could be three times the expected reward for efforts made.

All these involve fresh and innovative thinking, digging deep as individuals about situations and then adapting the best of established truths to one's life.

Whatever the sign Gemini indicates, the converse element of future building in respect of those significations will also happen. Travel back in time is not to solve things in the present but to establish the future in respect of Budha's significations.

Vedic Transit Moon in Capricorn on 8th November, 2013

The Vedic Moon has entered sidereal Capricorn/ Makara Rashi ruled by the planet Shani/  Saturn on 8th November, 2013. Through these transit observations I try and impart some classical principles of Vedic astrology to the interested and informed reader, intertwined with some more immediate inferences derived from the astrological movements.

Vedic Astrology/ Jyotisha Transits Around 8th January, 2014


The times, they are a-changin’, always. Vedic astrology/ Jyotiṣa/ Jyotisha encapsulates this reality in many ways.

We find that Venus/ Śukra has retrograded back to Sagittarius/ Dhanuṣa/ Dhanusha from Capricorn/ Makara Rāśi/ Rashi. Mercury/ Budha is on the verge of moving into Capricorn from Sagittarius.

Budha has not been so comfortable in Dhanuṣa and will work much better in the earthy Makara/ Capricorn. Our rationality will focus on the work to be done and the requirements of the profession and work as these transits strengthen with the degrees of arc traversed by the planets.

Mercury has been wanting its roots, wherever they may be in your own horoscope. This desire will now transmute into productive and profitable action and if the preceding transit has been good for some reason then for those in mainstream working life, this next might be even better.

Exalted Moon in Taurus Aspected by Venus in Scorpio: 21st October, 2013

The Moon is exalted in Taurus on 21st October, 2013-happy days are here again especially after that very trying Grahaṇa/ Grahana/ eclipse Yoga in Meṣa Rāśi/ Mesha Rashi/ Aries aspected by Sun, Saturn and Rāhu/ Rahu.

It has been a very heavy weekend for people with all those malefic energies on the eclipsed Moon and now with the Moon in Taurus/ Vṛṣabha Rāśi/ Vrishabha Rashi, all appears to be well again.

Taurus is the wealth of the world and contains many treasures. It is the udder of the cow. It is associated with milk, and with the good things of life in general. It is ruled by Venus/ Śukra/ Shukra and is therefore associated with the finer things in life.

Since Vrishabha Rashi is a fixed sign/ Sthira Rāśi/ Rashi it exhibits conservative and steady traits and people with this sign dominant in the nativity like rich food, good clothes and in some cases can exhibit traits of elitism.

Saturn/ Shani, Rahu and Venus Aspecting Moon With Ketu Conjoined in Aries/ Mesha on 21st September, 2013

The transit Moon is in Aries on 21st September, 2013 with exalted Saturn/ Śani/ Shani, Rāhu/ Rahu and Śukra/ Shukra/ Venus aspecting it with planetary sight from Tulā Rāśi/ Tula Rashi/ Libra.

Cañdra/ Chandra/ Moon is also conjoined Ketu and on 22nd September, 2013 will be joined Ketu in exact degree conjunction. Therefore avoid succumbing to entirely irrational thoughts when this happens. The Moon will be eclipsed in Grahaṇa/ Grahana Yoga in Meṣa Rāśi/ Mesha Rashi.

Four people lost their lives in Chicago, Il. USA in violence with this Yoga and gangs indicated by Ketu have been identified as the cause for the fight. A lot of public debate and thought is going into the situation in Chicago which has the highest crime rate as a city in America and this debate is fuelled by the Vāyu/ Vayu of Śani/ Shani and Rāhu/ Rahu.

Exalted Saturn is happy in Libra where the paucity and lack has been assuaged. Rāhu/ Rahu is adding lust and sensuality to the environment being in Libra and also joined Venus the planet of sensuality and romance. Rahu is also exponentially raising the propensities of Venus to love and desire and this is extending to emotions in general and matters relating to wealth in particular.

This is due to the fact that a powerful Yoga for emotional platforms and wealth generation is being formed due to the strong planetary sight between Venus and the Moon which are placed in mutually 7th House placements from each other.







The chart above shows that Venus and Moon are closely interacting in an axis of love and ambition and Rāhu/ Rahu is also throwing in his hat trying to get the crown to wear on its head. Saturn is slowing this down and this is leading to repressed agitation and energy since Meṣa/ Mesha is the sign of the debilitation of Saturn.

There is a lot of cerebral energy in Libra and it is well said that the mind is the primary impetus in this and all matters in manifest life. Many ideas as to participation, love and lust are coursing through our minds and it is important that we try and stand at a distance from this and watch it happen, in which task the Ketu-Moon Yoga shall aid us.

This comes right on the heels of the transit of the Moon in Pisces where the opposition and conflict between practicality and maximising wealth generation and the tendency to relinquish control over pragmatic sensibility was pronounced.

'Happy New Year' and 'Happy Birthday' in Vedic Astrology


Happy New Year in Vedic Astrology/Jyotiṣa stands on much the same footing as Happy Birthday does. Vedic Astrology follows the sidereal zodiac unlike the Western world which follows the tropical zodiac.

As we usher in 2014 according to the Gregorian Calendar, we need to note two things-firstly, this is the Western New Year, that is, it is actually happening, and secondly, it is not the Vedic New Year.

‘Is’ is bold and underlined because I am a big fan of what is happening and not happening. This is an important benchmark for me. The New Year is happening based on a certain reckoning. This is not the Vedic reckoning. So the Gregorian New Year is not that important, if at all, in the Hindu system of popular time.

But then that is no reason to not note vociferously that a New Year is close at hand and anticipate new things because…because it is happening.

Vedic astrology records months based on the solar ingress. The solar ingress means the movement of Sūrya/ Surya into Rāśi/sign. The Rashi or the Vedic sign is created by the Sun. This is done based on the one degree motion of the Sun per day and each Vedic sign is comprised of thirty degrees of arc of longitude.

The Vedic system records ‘days’ as motion of the Moon called ‘Tithi’ which is relative to the Sun based on the angular distance between the two luminaries. There are thirty Tithi in a month/Māsa/Masa.

The Hindu New Year starts on the day the Sun transits into the first sign of the zodiac Meṣa/Mesha/ Aries. That makes sense even to the person who is not actually adept at astrology. This is the first lunar day of the bright half (Śukla Pakṣa Pratipadā/ Shukla Paksha Pratipada) in the Chaitra Māsa. This is Happy New Year in Vedic astrology.

What in the world is happy birthday, then? Assuming people have one clear birthday and not two, say one in February and the other in October to confuse the general populace, then the Vedic birthday will be close to that birthday though not identical with it. The Vedic birthday varies a little each year. However there is zero variation in the astronomy of the birthdate.

The astronomy of the birthdate is the exact angular distance between the Sun and Moon as at birth during the month when the Sun is transiting the same Rāśi as at the time of birth. This is called Tithi Praveśa/Pravesha but is actually Happy Birthday (the February-October rider firmly in place).

Tithi is very important though Western Happy New Year and Happy Birthday are important only because they happen. Tithi is important because it is composed of Jala Tattwa/ water element which indicates emotions, flux and prosperity all of which are important. Every year we cast a Tithi Praveśa Cakra/ Tithi Pravesha Chakra, a distinct horoscope for the Vedic birthday which reveals the basic features of the Hindu year in respect of love and prosperity and the flow of things in general.

Happy birthday is more Moon and Happy New year is more Sun.

The Falling Rupee-A Vedic Astrology Evaluation of Karmic Reasons

The Indian Rupee is depreciating in value consistently against the US Dollar. The weakness of the Indian currency and its devaluation has worried everyone.

We can study some basic facts through Vedic Astrology and see the Kārmic designs that have led to this situation. These are simple but emerge as simple only when they are stated and recognised as such.

Independent India has its own horoscope but we are not going into that for the present. We might note however that India has Vṛṣabha/ Vrishabha/ Taurus rising in the Lagna/ Ascendant in the  natal chart. 

The transit chart can be quite revealing especially the transit of the slow moving or the outer planets in the zodiac. The current transit is depicted below-



 
 
 
 
The rupee or indeed the currency of any nation is governed by the planet Mercury/ Budha which is also the planet signifying commerce, trade and business intercourse. The deity of Budha is the God of Wealth Himself, Kubera.
 
 
 
 
 

 
 
 
 
However, Mercury is a planet and a playful one at that and therefore in life we know that business determinants do not have constant values but keep changing based on various dynamics. We expect the currency to fluctuate based on complex interplays of market and other economic forces.
 
Mercury being a planet moves from house to house/ Bhāva (Bhava) to Bhāva (Bhava) but there must be more fixed factors from which to study business, enterprise, currency, trade, commerce and investment.
 
The Kāma Tṛkoṇa/ Kama Trikona relates not only to desire but more directly to desire for love and luxury, both these partaking of the Rajas Guṇa/  Guna. Out of these Budha is the planet we are interested in as the significator but the Kāma Tṛkoṇa/ Kama Trikona comprises the 3rd, 7th and 11th Houses as reckoned from the Udaya Lagna/ sign rising in the Ascendant.
 
In the natural zodiac this corresponds to the sign Gemini/ Mithuna in the 3rd, Libra/ Tulā Rāśi/ Tula Rashi in the 7th and Aquarius/ Kumbha Rāśi/ Rashi in the 11th House from the Lagna.
 
We know that the size of the current account deficit has been stated to be one of the foremost reasons for the plummeting state of the Indian Rupee. Deficits in general are governed by the planet Saturn which is exalted but was retrograde in the recent past giving results of debility. It was and is joined Rāhu/ Rahu the North Node which rules foreign lands and foreign currencies in this context and both planets are placed in the sign of business, markets, companies-Libra/ Tulā/ Tula.   
 
Rāhu/ Rahu and Śani are also lords of Aquarius the 11th House of a zodiac and can make for huge trials and blockages before any desire is fulfilled and their placement as natural 11th Lords in the 7th House has been creative of a certain effect where the value of Indian economy and the strength of its currency has taken a beating.
 
What is required? Now Śani is exalted and in direct motion and joined Rāhu/Rahu and the dispositor Venus is currently indicating the basic malaise and problems associated with business in India. Firstly, the problem is rooted in spending money which one doesn't have since Venus is now debilitated and has no resources with which to fund the consumerist splurging. Rāhu shows foreign economies and their impact on Indian business. We know that business schools have been shutting down left, right and centre and the purple period has been long over though the recession in the US did not duplicate itself here.
 
What is required, again? Saturn shows basics and since it is exalted it shows adherence to the basics of survival in business and economics as the way out. We have to take serious note of the global economic situation especially of the economies which whom we interact significantly. We are not short of the intellectual wherewithal since Jupiter the significator of the treasury can provide clear insights as to precisely what is required and what will suffice.
 
This paper is being written in the Gajakeśarī/ Gajakesari Yoga in Mithuna Rāsi/ Rashi and so there is Jupiter's influence in this evaluation. We cannot pay those astronomical prices for onions because we do not have the money (Venus)-this is an analogy.
 
So when will things improve. Clearly when Venus joins the afflicting combination in Libra/ Tula though even here sparks may fly. This happens on 6th September, 2013. It is only then and thereafter that an astute evaluation of the resources could be made.

New Year's Eve on 31st December, 2013 Viewed Through Vedic Astrology


New Year’s Eve 2013-2014 is on Tuesday and indicates the transit of the Moon/ Cañdra/ Chandra from Scorpio/ Vṛṣcika/ Vrishchika to Sagittarius/ Dhanuṣa Rāśi/ Dhanusha Rashi.

The Moon has been debilitated in Scorpio and has been aspected by the 12th Bhāva/ Bhava Graha Driṣṭi/ Drishti of Rāhu/ Rahu.

The Nīca Cañdra shows a vulnerable emotional state plagued by doubt and fear-one has anxieties that the very worst is inevitable.

But even though the Moon traverses out of this debility in the afternoon on the 31st of December, 2013, in order to do so it must encounter the junctional region between Vṛṣcika and Dhanuṣa which is called the Gaṅdāṅta/ Gandanta. The conflict of high fire and water creates real foundational conflict in the emotional and social manifestation.

To add to this the Sun is joined the Moon in Sagittarius in the Kṛṣṇa Caturdaśī Doṣa/ Krishna Chaturdashi Dosha which is considered to be a flawed quality of time if the birth should occur during this time.

The Caturdaśī is ruled by Venus and there are chances of romantic issues cropping up for people who have these matters ripe for fruition in their own horoscope.

Śani aspects the transit Moon and the Sun and Mercury joined the Moon in Sagittarius with its 3rd House aspect bringing a lot of mental work and deliberations to the party. The balance to this astrological equation is finally given by the Yogas which form in the skies-the Gajakeśarī/ Gajakesari and the Parivartana Yoga between Budha and Gurū. The former leads to acclaim and fame for those using the intellect for their professional pursuits and the latter ensures that what we communicate has the power of wisdom of Jupiter in it.

Asaram Bapu, Ram Jethmalani, 'Ailments That Attract Girls To Old Men'-Vedic Moon in Aquarius on 17th September, 2013

As the Vedic Moon transits Aquarius we have heard some statements being made by his counsel Ram Jethmalani that the complainant suffers from an ailment which attracts her to old men. Nīca Grahas show Devī Bhāva/ Devi Bhava (female) while Uccha or exalted Grahas show Viṣṇu/ Vishnu (male). The doctor of course comes from the natural 8th House of treatment of a chronic ailment which Asaram Bapu has cited. Chronic ailments are also seen from the 8th House.

Wealth, Inspiration & Optimism-Venus, Moon and Jupiter in the Sagittarius-Gemini Axis on 6th November, 2013

Venus in Sagittarius might be talking of high principles and ideals but then as they say in pop culture-'There ain't no romance without finance'. Finance is coming from the Kāraka/ Karaka for wealth, Gurū/ Guru/ Jupiter in Mithuna Rāśi/ Rashi/ Gemini.

The transit Moon has moved to Sagittarius as well right after the debilitated sojourn in Scorpio and in order to do this it had to cross the Gaṅdāṅta/ Gandanta region. In the process it immediately forms the Vāhana/ Vahana/ Annapūrṇā/ Annapurna/ Yānavaṅta/ Yanavanta Yoga with Venus one of the dominant significations of which is wealth and leadership.

Dhanuṣa Rāsi/ Dhanusha Rashi/ Sagittarius is the epitome of inspiration and optimism. Venus finds its goal in Pisces ruled by Jupiter and gets exalted there as the oneness with the divine is the highest expression of beauty. Dhanuṣa/ Dhanusha is the Mūlatṛkoṇa Rāśi/ Mulatrikona Rashi of Guru.

Women who are looking or aspiring for adequate suitors will find their heart's desire because Gurū/ Guru is the Naisargika Kāraka/ Karaka for spouse and the husband for them. Knowledge and abundance are the great themes here in this transit due to the association of the two preceptors with the royalty indicated by the transit Moon in Sagittarius. The Moon confirms the coming to pass of an event and its association with the Gemini-Sagittarius axis is also prominent for the politicians in India especially the Prime Minister who must have dominant planets in this axis in the radix.

Gemini is the exaltation of Rāhu and thus of the political acme. Jupiter here means that the eternal magic of India through esoteric advice could not only have ramifications for people associated with banking, currency, books and accountancy but also politicians at the highest levels, Gurū/ Guru representing the astrologer. Vedic Astrology - Providing What is Lacking in Human Life


The prayers of humanity were answered when the Rishis/ Ṛṣis of India decided to give forth the classical dicta and Ślokas/ Shlokas which form the corpus of Vedic Astrology/ Jyotiṣa.

So says the person who has prayed for help. So says the person who has aspired to heights. So says the person who mulls ‘What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger’. So says the Brahmin or the metaphysical seeker. So say the blessed.

In life sometimes shock manifests. Shock in its unpleasantness can damage, the sound of the hammer of anxiety on the human heart disappears in time but the ricochet and the reverberations can be longstanding. Maybe then, but perhaps not, maybe at some other time, a person who knows, and knows Jyotisha/ Jyotiṣa counsels him about the past Karma and the Graha which brought shock. The sight of the impersonal diagrammatic truth can silence the old ripples.

The eighth house is either a black hole or a treasure trove filled with unbelievably precious secrets. It also keeps the esoteric and the occult. If one falls into a black hole, it is a conventionally damaging event. But if one dives in to get precious jewels or ends up doing that, it can be a wondrous travel. Or someone else may have both fallen into a black hole or which appeared thus, and found a treasure trove, and is willing to share the light of the jewels.

The black of adversity and the light of those jewels are both possible.

Adversity manifests through weak Grahas/ planets or through malefic planets. When another is adverse the art finds the motivation of the other and it could be that the motivation is nothing but weakness. The dramatis personae can be recognized through the Varga with the highest weightage – the D-60/ Ṣaśṭhyāmśa  though one is not advised to go there often and even if one does it is difficult to arrive since the Lagna/ Ascendant is time sensitive and not easy to fix.

Hammer of anxiety on the heart? We can cut through the verbiage and see it as a malefic (s) influencing the 4th House, 4th Lord and/ or the Moon.

Frailty and vulnerability - from weak planets or those always standing for weakness.

What about the Vedic astrologer coming across a person in a vulnerable phase, which is quite often, since there is some fraction of the black hole of darkness which assails, and if it were the light of the jewels then one would instead participate in the writing of a conference paper rather than seek metaphysical therapy, ... what about the Vedic astrologer spotting some powerful planets yet to come into their own.

Rather than weakly murmuring this too shall pass, he can tell the person the entire context of the journey and what the vulnerability might mean in the specific fabric of his life.

Nobody ever got it easy and if they did it was not worth it.

How do you know for sure what a relationship means or meant, even with the benefit of hindsight? The fact of the matter is sometimes it is difficult to tell. Sometimes things are obvious and one can tell.

Jyotiṣa/ Jyotisha can evaluate the events in the given time frame (Daśā/ Dasha) and get real insights as to what the specific relationship meant. Nimitta and characteristic and the overall pace of the horoscope (apart from the Daśā/ Dasha) can really illuminate reality. One need not dissipate time and energy and emotion wondering more than it is Karmically imperative. Some Karma is very strong and pushes through and other relies on the powerhouse human being to carry it through.

Which is which and who is who- we need divine sight of Vedic astrology to properly discern.

The distinction between a pipe dream and focussed ambition can sometimes be hard to draw especially in these Mercurial, fast changing times (Age of Information signified by Budha/ Mercury). The Charakāraka/ Charakaraka, the planets of ambition and aspiration, the Rājya/ Rajya focussed entities in the horoscope, the significators for power, those that hold the resources for power or success or wealth or fame or excellence... whatever it may be and in whatever proportion, the evaluation of these facets in the Rāśi/ Rashi Chakra, Navāmśa/ Navamsha Chakra  and the Daśāmśa/Dashamsha Chakra can crisply show the plan in the realm of endeavour.

Transformation, growth, humanity, connection, heights, flights, battling, understanding, forgiving – on each step of the contemporary wakened person’s journey in the Kaliyuga the blessing of the Sages  makes every moment of life more meaningful, more potent and laden with purpose.

We like and need fast, but find ourselves vulnerable at speed, we need to give our best to ourselves and others but cannot find the ways to do that, we want to be able to tell ourselves things about ourselves and do, but there is never enough time and focus together and the answers are inflections of the mind and intellect.

With Vedic astrology the truth resonates deep within and the words disappear. It is a realisation.

Since the horoscope is a map of life it covers everything. This is the reason that the ancient propositions apply so completely irrespective of how much life changes. The Brahmin’s mind changes with the changes in human life and changes so as to interpret new landscape through an old vision, simply by changing the lens every few years or decades or at whatever interval required.

Fundamental Karmic Permutations and Combinations in Vedic Astrology/ Jyotisha


We live and learn. Or not.

We try and figure out what happened and why it happened.  And we try and gauge what the future holds. We decide to live in the present moment and do the best we can.

We aspire and work hard and love.

Why do we do what we do, and not do what we don’t and why only at certain points in our lives.

Why are some people important and not others-connections and want of connections.

India has been a teacher of the world. India has had Rṣis/ Rishis who transcended the intellect and brought knowledge down from the heavens for us. Jyotiṣa/ Jyotisha is a systematic discipline which transcends the intellect and brings the divine awareness into pragmatic reality. It can make the mundane shine.

One could say that of the utmost importance in life is what happens. And as a corollary what does not happen. The rest is incidental.

What happens is the result of an elevated system of Karmic permutations and combinations. On the one hand we have areas and fields of life manifestation denoted by the Bhāvas/ Bhavas/ houses from the Lagna/ ascendant-

Lagna-Self and current circumstance, basic personality, roots, core

Dhana-family and liquid assets

Vikrama-siblings, enterprise

Matṛ/ Matri-home, mother, parental family, childhood

Putra-progeny, mind

Śatru/ Shatru-enemies (internal and external), daily work

Kalatra-spouse, intimacy, Hṛdaya

Raṅdhra/ Randhra-debt, occult

Bhāgya/ Bhagya-father, fortune, religion, faith

Karma-work, attainment

Lābha/ Labha-gains, fulfillment of aspirations

Vyaya-expenditure, sleep, release

And then we have dynamic energies acting on these fields of play through their attributes and lordships-

Ravi-power, kingship, father, pride

Cañdra/ Chandra-mother, other half of royalty, fame, people

Maṅgala-strength, anger

Budha-communications, commerce, work

Gurū/ Guru-wisdom, religion, law, finance

Śukra/ Shukra-marriage, intimacy, corporate

Śani/ Shani-labour, servants, suffering

Rāhu/ Rahu-foreign, espionage, shock, deceit, crown

Ketu-Mokṣa, Moksha, irrationality, hardware

Then we have special references such as the Viṣeṣa Lagna/ special ascendants which show the manifest life (Ārūḍha Lagna), power (Ghāṭika Lagna), wealth (Horā Lagna).

There are so many parts to life and the Vargas deal with that. The Navāmśa Chakra/ D-9 for blessings, skills, marriage, the Daśāmśa Chakra/D-10 for work, the Drekkāṇa (D-3) for siblings, and sexuality and past Karma guiding this life,  Tūryāmśa (D-4) for properties, Saptāmśa (D-7) for progeny, Dwādaśāmśa (D-12) for elders, Ṣoḍaṣāmśa (D-16) for luxuries and so on and so forth till we reach the Ṣaṣṭiāmśa (D-60) chart which contains the sum total of past Karma which is to manifest in this life through the Lagna Cakra or the Rāśi Chakra.

Daśās, both Nakṣatra Daśās and Rāśi Daśās help us to see how time is changing, and which part of the Karma is manifesting.

Through a myriad other techniques revealed by the Sages we are able to understand the trajectory of our own Karma.

This is an art which tells a complex story very simply shorn of all the doubts and the hurt and the highs and the lows-it is simply a tale of what is and what was always meant to be.

Vedic astrology is the highest flight of not only the human mind but of the human soul. It can lead to an understanding of the Veda, and it can lead to the goal.
